Development has ceased for 1pixelout player for Joomla & a final note about volume control

I'm still receiving many emails about 1pixelout player for Joomla and i think it's time to set the record straight on the development progress. Before that, i do want to thank everyone for downloading and using it on their sites.

Since i have decided to switch to using Drupal a year ago, i have ceased development of all my Joomla extensions / plugins due to not having enough time. So please do not ask for feature requests or support any more.

I regret that some of the features i wanted to include like popup player and volume control didn't make it into 1pixelout player. Drupal has a bit of a learning curve and continues to evolve rapidly, therefore it has demanded more of my time but has been a lot more fun to learn.

Another point i wish to raise that many Joomla users have been asking about, the volume control for 1pixelout player.

Where did the volume control go?

The volume control was never included in plg_onepixelout-player-v1_5_2 because to make it work the code would have to be refractored and most part re-written. Unfortunately, i never had the time and quite frankly i wanted to plough all of my efforts and energy into Drupal as my interest with Joomla was waning.

However, due to popular demand for the volume control i have written a guide below.

Adding Volume control for 1pixelout player for Joomla 1.5.x

  • Install plg_onepixelout-player-v1_5_2 as you normally do with any Joomla extensions
  • Download this swf file: player.zip
  • Unzip the file so you'll see player.swf
  • Copy this player.swf over the file (same file name - player.swf) found in the plugin installed directory. The installed directory path should be plugins/content/1pixelout/

The original file can be obtain here WP audio player. But you do not need this for this quick guide.

The player should work as expected but you will encounter an issue - player does not stop previous song from playing when another song is active. There might be other side effects but i have not tested it enough.

Lastly, i hope someone will take this up and continue further development of 1pixelout player for Joomla. With over 18,000 downloads, it certainly is a popular extension.

Thank you for all your support over the last couple of years and i hope the plugin has been as useful to you as it was for me.

Quick note:

If you are already using Drupal, the alternative to this extension is the module - mp3player.

i downloaded the player.zip file and overwrited the existing player but volume control is still not working

Are you sure? if not then you can download it from this site

I like to mention that a little mentioned trick enables Shoutcast streaming;
Just add a trailing slash and semicolon at the end of the URL.

It's a flash player characteristic I read about in a WinAmp forum post.

As an example, here are the SOMA.FM ambient beats:
{audio autostart}http://scfire-ntc-aa01.stream.aol.com:80/stream/1018/;{/audio}

For this purpose I would like an option to display a mini-version of the 1pixelplayer without the progress bar since that bar is not useful when streaming radio. Also if the background could be made transparent or semi-transparent that would be cool. Even an invisible player would be interesting in some application using a very faint volume for a 'subliminal ambient soundwall'
Enjoy and have a nice time.

Well, I want to thank you for this great player for Joomla! Too bad you have stopped supporting it any more...

I do not really mind for the volume bar, so I don't really care to try the "trick" so as to get it work. But I just noticed that the full length of the track is not displayed. Is there any way that I can fix this?

I would highly appreciate a reply..

As long as you tag (ie, ID3 tag) your mp3 file, the track title should display.

Wassup many thanks pertaining to your post.I genuinely love your website.Its really informative.Nevertheless I genuinely want you to post how you put social bookmarking below your post.My partner and i like it since it's a incredibly clear neat blogger mod.
thank you extremely much

The social bookmarkings is a module i used called http://drupal.org/project/service_links

With the replacement of the swf file the tags are not shown.!
Please make a modification on this!
