Looking for an Open Source Shopping Cart? Look no further
Already over 100,000 downloads and a shopping cart capable of allowing anyone to run an online store like Amazon - say "hello" to Magento.
Magento is an open source shopping cart that has only been out a few months ago and already it is looking very promising. I'm currently testing it out and to my surprise, it is delivering what it promises, quote from Magento's website:
"Magento is a new professional open-source eCommerce solution offering unprecedented flexibility and control. With Magento, never feel trapped in your eCommerce solution again."
Recently, they have updated there installer making it a breeze to install the shopping cart via PEAR. However, there is a downside and that is the server requirements. So be sure to check this out with your web host. I've installed it on Site5 and was please to know there were no issues.
Anyway, keep a very close eye on Magento, it'll be the only shopping cart you'll ever need to run an online store. Production release will be expected within the next couple of months.
