Using VPN to stream online TV shows and movies on any device

During this Coronavirus pandemic, I've spent countless hours binge watching TV shows and movies from streaming sites such as Netflix, Prime Video, and Disney+.

Recently, I was getting a little bored with the content we have on the UK streaming sites so went onto imdb.com and rottentomatoes.com to see what other decent TV shows or movies were recommended. It turned out some of the TV dramas and movies were not available in my country but in the US.

This is when a VPN connection comes in handy. I was able to use PureVPN to connect securely to a VPN server located in the US which routes the streaming content to my device (ie, PC or mobile) in the same time hiding my online identity so it thinks i am actually streaming from within the US (but in fact watching it from UK). There are different content specific to country so you just need to connect with PureVPN and choose a country you want where the content is what you want to watch.

Is Using a VPN to Watch US Netflix, Prime Video or Disney+ legal?

Yes. It is perfectly legal to use a VPN to access streaming sites from any country. But not all VPNs are equal. Some VPN providers cannot help you access these streaming sites libraries due to fewer servers. PureVPN has over 6,500+ servers located around the world. That is why you should choose a VPN like PureVPN that offers more servers and access the video streaming sites.

Is Using a PureVPN to Watch Torrent or free video streaming sites legal?

I have had many people ask me this question many times. Short answer, yes it is illegal to stream and watch copyrighted material for free. When users mentions free TV shows and movies to stream online, they are asking about using apps or websites that do not have any license to allow such digital materials to be hosted or shared. Some apps do not store the actual files but uses Torrent Peer-to-Peer (P2P) way of sharing content to stream. Couple of most popular apps among many others are popcorntime.app and stremio.com

PureVPN can be used to hide your tracks and keep you private from prying eyes while you use these apps but I do strongly advise against using these apps because it is illegal unless you have the rights to watch the copyrighted materials for free. You have be warned so use at your own risk. Generally, the streaming can be unreliable and slow, and at times no sources available for a particular video to stream.

However, there is nothing illegal about Torrent itself, it is just a distributed application architecture that makes P2P possible. There are many legal shared content just as well as there are many shared illegal content. If you are not sure what is legal and what is not, the best thing to do is avoid it altogether.

PureVPN is not free but for the price you pay per month/year, it is very cheap and affordable for a speedy connection and vast choice of servers in every country.

You can opt to go for other free VPN but in my past experience, most often it is unreliable and very slow.

Setting up and using PureVPN is simple. You just install the application on your device, login to the app and select a country/location you want to connect to. PureVPN app is available for Windows, Mac, Linux and mobile devices.
